HOW TO MAKE A CUTE BEETLE POT PLANTER

Living in congested and dull urban spaces often takes us away from nature. However, keeping small plants and succulents at home is a quick and easy solution to this. Keeping plants inside your homes is a definite mood lifter and helps create a natural and eco-friendly ambience.This DIY terracotta pot planter is a sure fire way of sprucing up your personal space, keeping it in tune with nature.

Materials required:

  1. A fired terracotta pot
  2. 80 grit number sandpaper
  3. Plastic plate for paints
  4. Acrylic paints
  5. 1/2 inch and zero number brushes
  6. A piece of cloth to dry the brushes

Step 1: Get a fired terracotta pot

Visit your local market or the potter and buy a fired terracotta 4-inch pot with a beetle motif on it.

Step 2: Use sandpaper to smooth the surface

Use the 80 grit number sandpaper to gently rub the surface of the pot. This step is crucial as it creates a smooth and even basefor you to work on.

Step 3: Wash and dry the pot

Now, carefully wash the pot under water and keep it out in the sun till it dries completely.

Step 4: Do the base coat

 

 

Using white acrylic colour, paint a base coat on the outside. This ensures that the overall look and finish of the final coat is polished and even. Colouring inside the pot is optional

Step 5: Paint the pot red

 

 

Once dry, paint the pot with red acrylic paints using the bigger ½ inch brush. Do two coats if necessary. It is important to keep the brush strokes in one direction for an even look.

Step 6: Highlight the beetle

Use the zero number brush to highlight the body and features of the beetle. You can get creative here and use whatever colours you like. For this particular pot, we went with the classic white and black on red look.

Step 7: Paint the base and the polka dots

Add final touches to the pot by painting the base in cream and adding polka dots using the same colour. Leave it to dry.

Step 8: It’s ready!

Your DIY beetle pot planter is now ready for some cute plants and succulents.
